We are off on our holiday early Sunday morning. We stay in New York for 3 nights (and see Equus on Tuesday night, anyone else going then?)

Then it's off to Hawaii on Weds, 5 nights on Big Island and 3 on Ohau, then 4 nights in Las Vegas. I hope the hotels have extra pillows! The higher up my head is, the less dizzy I get :)

So at the moment I am sorting out washing and packing (i.e. deciding what to take with us, we need both winter and summer stuff, LOL!)

I probably won't be starting any new multi-chapters until the new year, but there are a couple of fest fics I've written for Harry Holidays and the Snarry Swap which will be up sometime between now and then. So you can get your Eriador fix, even if you don't know it was me ;)

We were thinking of moving house, but what with the credit crunch at the moment, it might not be the best time to sell. We'll still do the DIY and get everything ready so that once the market does pick up a bit, we will be ready to go.

Has anyone been to New York? Any suggestions for touristy things to do? We will probably do the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty and probably take in another Broadway show or two, LOL! Any reasonably priced restaurants around there? (Our hotel is in between Broadway and Central Park.)

Also, does anyone know of a reliable free website host without ads/pop-ups etc.? I've been trying to organise my fanfic all in the one place, but the site I tried yesterday has been very unreliable.

I just want somewhere where I can upload my own html files, I don't want lots of bell and whistles with templates etc., but I do need a bit of space and bandwidth. My own website that I use for my books doesn't have enough room, when I try and upload anything new I get the message that my space is used up. I have asked them to increase it, but they never have.

take care,
Annette

Have a wonderful holiday!
Geocities has an ad along one side of the screen, but otherwise it doesn't bother my visitors a bit. I have 15 megs, I think? Not sure about the bandwidth. Anyway, you might check it out. I like it because "Easy Upload" really is easy.

New York
Just got back today. It is cold -1 to +1 c but sunny and therefore not unpleasant. Pack jumpers and good walking shoes. Stood outside the Broadhurst but didn't go in, went to see Chicago instead. Empire State gets very busy, long, long queues, you have to go early. We went up to the top of the Rockefeller instead (49th Street between 5th & 6th Ave) - no queue, just as high 69 floors and an excellent view of the Empire State just in front of it. There is an ice rink too. Lots of Holiday sales in places like Macy's. Pack your credit card (and let the card company know where you are going or they may block it).

It is a great city to visit, lots of places to eat.

All prices are quoted before 8.375% tax.

Most restaurants add tips of up to 20%

Have a lovely time

Re: New York
Oh, thanks. I was thinking of the Rockefeller with the ice rink etc.

We've already got the tickets for Equus, so we'll definitely see that one, LOL! I was hoping the Half Blood Prince would have been out and we would have gone to see that too; it's interesting going to cinemas in different places, but that's not going to happen now ;)

Yep, I've got jumpers, coats, scarves and gloves all ready to go in to the case.

take care,
Annette

I can't really say anything about what to visit in New York per say, but be careful New Yorkers are asses from time to time and even more careful at night and have fun. ^^

Sounds much like Londoners then, LOL! We've been on holiday all over the world and the only place I've ever been stolen from was in London. Not quite a mugging, we were in a lift of a tube station to get to the entrance level. Someone pushed me from behind and I let go of my back briefly to steady myself. Once we got off the lift, I realised my purse had been stolen from my bag and I hadn't noticed a thing at the time! I normally held onto my bag, but I guess that was the reason someone pushed me, so I'd let go of it!

So instead of enjoying our evening out, we spent most of it ringing up the credit card and bank people to let them know my cards got stolen and giving a report to the police. Thankfully, we'd reported it soon enough that the thieves never got a chance to use my cards and a few days later my purse was found with the cards still in it at another tube station. They must have just abandoned it when they realised they couldn't use the cards. They did get some cash though which we never saw again.

take care,
Annette

New Yorkers
We found everyone to be very polite and felt very safe even walking around at 11.30pm. We had been warned about rudeness but found no evidence. That said everyone is in a hurry.
